This is the first edition of הגדה ברורה, the only modern haggadah that is designed to help you use the Maggid as it was originally designed to be used. This edition is my preliminary attempt at converting the accurate theory of how the Maggid works into a usable haggadah.
The text is exactly identical to the one you are used to. All I have done is present each fragment of the Maggid on a single or double page with three additions:
- The complete text of each section of Shemot that is linked to the corresponding section of ארמי אבד אבי
- A brief English review of the section that you can scan on the night to make sure you don’t miss anything crucial.
- A review of some interpretative debates among major Torah commentators to enrich your understanding of the story and allow for extended discussion.
I’ve also included a comprehensive essay at the back explaining how the Maggid works and how it was composed.
Just print off the PDF double sided (120 pages) and bind it however you want. Since printouts have a tendency to end up in the bin, I have made three versions for download
- With שמות. Please only print this if you plan to bind it properly and put it in genizah should it become damaged. (Click here)
- Without שמות: This contains no names of Hashem, but be aware that many poskim would still require genizah or another form of respectful disposal since it is a work of Torah and contains verses from the Chumash. According to some opinions it may be sufficient to print it with the cavanah that it should not acquire any sanctity. Ask your local orthodox Rabbi. (Click here)
- Super-strict without שמות: In this version I have inserted a ד in place of יי or ה wherever the four-letter name is intended and used G-d in place of God. (Click here)
If you get it printed out from a print shop, make sure they bind it right to left.
